This morning we began our day with a delicious espresso and brioche. We took the train out to Versailles around 11 and were there for a couple of hours. We met a couple sitting behind us on the train from Michigan and it was so nice to have someone to speak English to! The grounds of Versailles are beautiful and HUGE! The pictures really don't do it justice. We then toured the Musee d' Orsay. It was good to see some of the great artwork. Next we came back to our hotel to rest a little (after getting our afternoon crepe snack). We had planned to go to the Eiffel Tower around 4 but after walking all the way there the line was over 3 Hours long! No kidding, the line must have been close to a mile long. Needless to say we decided to come back when we hoped the line was a little shorter. Around 8:00pm we headed back out to make another attempt at going up the Eiffel Tower. The line had not shortened at all, so we decided that if we wanted to go up we'd have to hike (no line to go up the stairs but you can only go as high as the second platform). We went to the first platform, which was plenty of stairs for us, and still had some spectacular views. I'm really glad that we did this closer to our departure rather than in the beginning. We were able to identify all of the places we had been and it reaffirmed how much we walked! After we had a quick, very marginal dinner (hard to beat our dinner from last night) we took the subway back to our hotel. We are both so tired of riding the subway. It's great for the few days you're in town but I couldn't imagine having to make that your lifestyle daily...glad to be living in a place where it's 15 minutes drive to the office and no traffic. Luckily in Nice we'll take taxi's everywhere and Venice will be fun water buses.
Tomorrow it's on to Nice! Our flight leaves Paris at 11am and the flight is only about an hour. Hard to believe we're not even half way done with our trip, it feels like we've already done so much.
